Centrifugal Blowers

Evolvement Of Centrifugal Blowers

First, before going to Centrifugal Blowers, one must know what a blower is. A blower is an appliance which with the help of pressure and speed, shoves out the gases from the industry plant.

History and Evolvement of Centifugal Blowers

The Bellows was the very first blower ever developed to be used during smelting of iron, for air supply. Ancient Rome and some Asian countries have their literature mentioning the use of bellows. These were operated manually.

Centrifugal fans were first mentioned in the book D Re Metallica by George Pawer in 1556, where he indicated how these fans can help in ventilation inside mines.

Then after a long passage of time, Edwin A. Stevens of New Jersey installed fans to push air out of the boilers of steamships of North America in 1827

In 1832 Alexander Sablukov, a Russian military engineer invented a centrifugal fan, which then began to be used in light industries like sugar making in Russia and few other countries.

After few decades in 1862, Theophile Guibal patented Guibal fans, a type of centrifugal fan that worked as great machinery for ventilation in deep mining spaces.

By the end of the 19th century, centrifugal fans were being widely used in different countries.

The development and evolvement in centrifugal fans caught speed after in mid of the 19th century. Germany in 1935 began to use axial flow fans for ventilation in boilers. 1948 saw Denmark making, rotary axial fans, Meridian acceleration axial fans, transverse flow fans, oblique fans, but the boom in centrifugal blowers came in 2002 when explosion-proof centrifugal fans began to be used machinery involved in petroleum, chemical, and other industries.

With the introduction of new sources of power such as electricity and steam, new types of equipment were invented to utilize it, such as brakes for locomotives running on steam and automated doors.

Centrifugal fan is machinery whose primary use is in the circulation of air in manufacturing industries, cement industries, dust removal devices, stone cutting and grinding process equipment, cyclone dust collector, etc. These fans ensure that the environment for production and manufacturing is safe and clean for both workers and machinery to avoid accidents.

Working Principle of Centrifugal Blowers

As the impeller is spinning the air entering the system is separated between the vanes of the impeller. With the rotation of the impeller, the speed of air increase and centrifugal force move it outwards. This accelerated air is then slowed down and dispersed to create pressure in the surrounding blower. The fan speed is always constant as it is a constant CFM device.

With advancement and evolvement in technology these blowers are used in different industries in large productions and even smaller home appliances.

Applications of Centrifugal Blowers in Different Industries

At present these blowers are used in industries for the transportation of materials and gases. Centrifugal blowers play an important role in controlling the air pollution generating through industries, and also help in dust collection. These are used in drying and cooling systems, fluid bed aerators, gas boosting, air conveyor systems, for ventilation of sludge, filter flushing, and many other.

Their scope of application can be found in large production units, like machinery production and keeping workplace dust-free, to small blowers units, used in homes appliances such as air conditioning units, hair-dryers, personal computers, exhausts for cooling and ventilation, furnaces, etc.

Future with Centrifugal Blowers

The evolvement and development of centrifugal blowers have been happening over time and will continue to do so in the future. As new technologies will enter the market, they will create a path for new applications of these blowers.
