Baghouse Filter

Industrial Advantages of Setting Up a Baghouse Filter

Baghouse Filters, also known by its aliases like bag filters or fabric filters, are a type of device that regulates air pollution and removes particulates or gas particles released from commercial processes at Industrial premises. Industrial sites such as steel mills, pharmaceutical producers, power plants, food manufacturers, chemical producers, and other industrial companies generally use baghouse filters in order to control the emission of air pollutants. Baghouse filters were first put on use in the late 1970s aftermath the invention of high temperature fabrics, which could be used in the filter media and capable of withstanding temperatures over 170 degrees Celsius.

Baghouse Filters at Industrial Plants

Baghouse Filters employ long and cylindrical tubes that are made from fabric, woven or melted, as a filter medium. These filters are supposed to be used for heavy duty purposes and in places having high dust load. Non-woven cartridges can be used as a filter medium for low dust applications and require low heat conditions like 121 degrees Celsius or less than this.

Working of Baghouse Filters

Polluted gas or air enters the Industrial filter through the entry point called hoppers, through which the air is directed into the baghouse compartment. The gas is sucked in through the bags on the inside as well as the outside as per the cleaning method, and the suspended dust particles get accumulated on the filter surface till no more air can pass through the filter. The cleaning process begins as soon as a sufficient pressure drop occurs. Post cleaning of the compartment, the normal filtering process can resume.

Advantages of the Filter

Baghouse filters are promising air particulate collectors due to the layer of dust particles collected on the surface of the bags. The following are the mechanisms for separating pollutants from the discharged air.

  • Interception is the mechanism to separate pollutants that cannot cross the streamline fluid as soon as one comes in contact with the fiber.
  • The inertial collection is the method of collecting dust particles that are placed perpendicularly in the direction of gas flow rather than in a different direction.
  • Brownian motion is the force found within the gas particles and this force increases the probability of contact between the dust particles and collecting surfaces of the filter.
  • The electrostatic force is another force in action behind capturing the dust particle from the air making it clean again.
  • Once the particles are separated from the air from one of the above mechanisms, the filters need to be clean on a regular interval to ensure efficiency.

The Bottom Line

Techflow, was established in 1979 and has been operating since then in the area of air pollution control devices & equipment.
