About Industrial Fans
Fans and blowers are electrical equipments that provide air for ventilation and industrial process requirements. They generate pressure that moves the air or gases through a resistance from ducts and dampers present in the fan system. An electrical motor powers the rotor supporting the fan, which then transfers the energy to the air.

Difference between Fans, Blowers and Compressors

Different Types of Fans
The different types of fans depend on various factors such as;
- Volume flow rate
- Pressure
- Materials that are moved
- Space limitations
- Desired efficiency of the fans
- There are two general categories of fans, which are the centrifugal flow and the axial flow fans.
Centrifugal Fans (Industrial Fans)
In centrifugal flow types fans (Industrial Fan), the direction of airflow changes twice during operation. The first is when entering and when leaving the system. In this case, they are further classified into the forward curved, backward curved, inclined and the radial types.
Axial Flow Fans
In axial fans the air enters and exits the fan with no particular changes in the direction. They are also classified as propeller, tube axial and vane axial fans.
According to the fan efficiencies, the types of fans can be classified as;
| Type of Fan | Peak Efficiency Range |
|---|---|
| Centrifugal Fan | |
| Air flow, backward, curved /inclined | 79-83 |
| Modified Radial | 72- 79 |
| Radial Fan | 69-75 |
| Pressure Blower | 58-68 |
| Forward curved | 60-65 |
| Axial Fans | |
| Vane Axial | 78-85 |
| Tube axial | 67-72 |
| Propeller | 45-50 |
Industrial Axial Fans
They are also referred to as the axial blowers and they utilize a propeller to direct air into the fan and discharge it in the same axial direction. Axial fans are mainly used in exhaust of dirty air or fumes from production processes such as paint sprays operation. They are very effective in supply of fresh air, spot cooling of people, in rooms and machinery areas. They generally handle air in low pressure and may be produced as both direct driven by motor or belt driven models.

Centrifugal Fan Blower
They have a set of various designs of wheels that draw air into the inlet, “of the housing”; the air goes over the wheel and then discharged at angle of 90 degrees. They are made of fabricated steel, stainless steel or cast aluminum.
The radial types are regarded as industrial workhorses due to their high static pressures of up to 1400 mm wc. They are also efficient in handling contaminated air streams. They are also suited for areas with high temperatures.
Conclusion
Industrial fans are widely used in numerous industrial and even domestic purposes. They are used basically to direct air flow to achieve certain objectives such as dust removal, heat removal, elimination of fumes in buildings and air purification in enclosed environments. Over the years, advanced technology has enabled the centrifugal and axial fan manufucturers deliver high quality and efficient fans , able to deliver and remove air very effectively.
